Georgia’s passing was an emergency euthanasia. The entire experience was tragic. It was painful. It is something I can never forget or not feel pain from. And yet, through it all, I have learned to think of Georgia and smile, to remember her in light & love. I choose to know she is with me still, each and every day since we have parted.
From one pet parent to another, this is the journey of grief that we all must go through.
In 2010 I met my soul dog Georgia and the rest as they say is history. With Georgia by my side, I left my corporate PR job and dedicated my career to my love of dogs and all animals.
As the founder and previous of owner of Urban Dog Walks (UDW) in Toronto, I had the opportunity to work with 100’s if not 1000’s of dogs, pets and their wonderful humans. I noticed how much my clients adored their pets and quickly came to understand just how special and unique the animal human connection really is.
With the enormous loss of my sister, Joy, who passed in 2021 I decided it was time to make a change and walked UDW into a very successful sale only to have my Georgia girl pass 1 yr later. Mourning my loss gave me some of the greatest lessons yet and served as the catalyst to the creation of The Parted Paw – A Dog & Pet Bereavement Service.
Of the many lessons learned along the way is the undeniable knowing that the only way out of grief is through. It is from this knowledge that I am dedicated to the process of grief and in being a helpful hand, a strong shoulder and practical system of support to all of my clients who are anticipating the loss or are currently grieving the loss of their Parted Paw.
